Calculate your percentage and check qualification status for CTET & State TET.
The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is the gateway to a teaching career in India. Whether you are appearing for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) conducted by CBSE or various State TETs (like UPTET, REET, TNTET, MAHATET), understanding the marking scheme and qualifying criteria is essential. This comprehensive guide covers everything you need to know about TET marks calculation, passing percentages, and validity rules for the year 2026.
Almost all TET exams in India follow a standardized pattern set by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The exam is divided into two papers (Paper 1 for Primary and Paper 2 for Upper Primary), but the marking logic remains consistent.
To be declared "TET Qualified," a candidate must score a minimum percentage of marks. This threshold varies based on the candidate's category (General vs. Reserved).
| Category | Minimum Percentage | Minimum Marks (Out of 150) |
|---|---|---|
| General (Unreserved) | 60% | 90 Marks |
| OBC (NCL) | 55% | 82 Marks |
| SC / ST | 55% | 82 Marks |
| PwD / Differently Abled | 55% | 82 Marks |
Note on 82 Marks: Mathematically, 55% of 150 is 82.5. However, CBSE and state boards accept 82 marks as the passing score for reserved categories. There is no rounding off to 83 required.
Calculating your percentage is straightforward. You can use the tool above or the manual formula:
Percentage = (Marks Obtained / 150) × 100
Example: If you scored 105 marks:
(105 ÷ 150) × 100 = 70%.
While the NCTE sets the baseline of 60% and 55%, some states have their own relaxation rules for domiciled candidates.
Is TET just a qualifying exam, or does the score matter? This depends on the recruitment policy:
Once you qualify, your certificate is valid for a lifetime. However, there is no limit on the number of attempts. If you have qualified with 95 marks but want to improve your score to 120+ for better recruitment prospects, you can re-appear in the next cycle.
For CTET, physical certificates are no longer sent. You must download your digitally signed certificate from DigiLocker using your Aadhar number. State TETs may still issue physical certificates or online provisional scorecards.
